1945年に米陸軍の物資集積場として開設され、金武湾に面するうるま市天願の北側に位置しています。

在日米海兵隊司令部をはじめ、第3海兵遠征軍、第3海兵師団の司令部が置かれており、日本に駐留する米海兵隊の中枢機能を有しています。

「キャンプ・コートニー」では、毎月第2・4（第5）土曜・日曜日の7:00～10:00にフリーマーケットが開催されています。

フリーマーケットは、雨天やその他事情で中止される場合があります。
