シリアは西アジアに位置し、地中海に面した国で、古代から文明の交差点として栄えてきました。特に、ダマスカスやアレッポなどの都市は世界最古の居住地として知られています。古代ローマ、イスラム帝国、オスマン帝国といった様々な支配を受けながらも、独自の文化と歴史を形成してきました。2011年から始まった内戦により、経済、社会、インフラが深刻な打撃を受けました。日本はシリアとの直接的な貿易関係は小規模ですが、人道支援や復興支援で重要な役割を果たしています。特に、シリア難民や国内避難民への医療・教育支援、古代遺跡の保全プロジェクトなどが挙げられます。現在もシリアの安定と復興に向けた国際的な努力の一環として活動しています。
