SKUとは、stock keeping unit（ストック・キーピング・ユニット）の略。在庫管理を行うときの最小の単位。また、VMDで「FKU」という用語があります。フェイス・キーピング・ユニット（Face Keeping Unit）の略で実際に店頭に展開するSKUのことです。物流現場ではSKU管理は商品識別コード(JANコード)で管理する場合が多い。商品管理のアクションとしての事例として、ファーストリテイリング（ユニクロ、GU）は、2018年春夏商品から全商品を対象にRFID（radio frequency identifier）タグの貼付を開始。
