沖縄県南城市玉城にある奥武島は、沖縄本島と約150mの橋でつながれた離れ島です。
周囲約1.7km、人口約950人、面積0.23平方キロメートルの小さな島で、のんびりとした雰囲気が漂っています
島内には漁港があり、新鮮な魚介類をリーズナブルな価格で味わえる食堂や鮮魚店、てんぷら屋などが並んでいます。
地元特産を利用した魚類、モズク天ぷら、モズクゼリー、モズクそばなどが有名で、近年のヘルシー志向により、注目をあびています。
歴史

奥武島は、玉城若按司（たまぐすくわかあじ）の子孫が650年ほど前に入植したことが始まりとされています。
伝統文化が色濃く残る島で、季節の風物詩も豊かです。梅雨明けの頃にはトビイカの天日干しが見られます。
