アラブ首長国連邦（UAE）の歴史は、先史時代から近代まで多様な変遷を経てきました。この地域は古代から貿易の要所として栄えており、7つの首長国が存在します。1820年にイギリスと保護協定を結び、19世紀末から20世紀初頭まで海賊行為の抑制や交易の安全確保が進められました。

紀元前5500年ごろ: 現在のUAE領域で最古の人類居住遺跡が存在。

7世紀: イスラム帝国の支配下でイスラム教が広まる。
17世紀 – 18世紀: アラビア半島南部から移住してきたアラブの部族により、各首長国が形成される。

1809年: イギリスによる海賊退治により、トルーシャル首長国（現在のUAEの一部）が成立。

1971年12月2日: アブダビ、ドバイ、シャールジャ、アジュマーン、ウンム・アル＝カイワイン、フジャイラの6首長国が連邦を結成して独立2。

1972年: ラアス・アル＝ハイマが加入し、現在の7首長国による連邦の体制が確立。
