ナイジェリアの歴史は、多くの文化と文明が交差する多様な背景を持つ。紀元前500年頃からノク文化が栄え、その後9世紀頃には、今のカノを中心としたハウサ諸王国が成立した。15世紀にはベニン王国が強大な力を誇り、交易や技術が発展した。19世紀に入ると英民族が進出し、1901年にはイギリスの保護領となった。1960年に独立を果たしたが、その後も内戦や政情不安が続いた。21世紀に入り、経済と社会の発展が進んでいるが、多くの課題も残っている。ナイジェリアの歴史はまた、独立以降の混乱と再生の波を描いています。1967年から1970年にかけて起きたビアフラ戦争は、国の分裂と悲惨な人道危機を招きましたが、その後に続く軍事政権の時代を経て、1999年に民主主義が回復しました。
