農林水産省の「海面漁業生産統計調査」によると、令和3年（2021年）の全国の鯵類の漁獲量は、長崎県が1位、島根県が2位で、両県で全体の約49%を占めています。アジは全国的に水揚げされていますが、なかでも多いのは北九州の海域です。漁獲量トップは長崎県で、そのあとに島根県、鳥取県と続き、アジの旬は春～夏で、特に6月～7月のアジは非常に食味に優れます。
